Where It All Started

Stained Glass Theatre was born from a dream in the heart of playwright, director, and Southwest Baptist University instructor, Ron Boutwell.

Boutwell had a vision to use theatre to communicate God’s love to the world. In the fall of 1982, Boutwell and a rag-tag bunch of college kids – all students of Ron’s -- began making plans to use their talents to serve God by establishing a full-time Christian Theatre.

Their dream was realized when Stained Glass Theatre opened its doors in the Fall of 1983.

Over the years “SGT” has changed locations as they’ve grown, from the basement of a small restaurant, to a downtown store front, to an old church, and now to a renovated flea market.

Stained Glass Theatre has been “Serving Christ Through the Arts” for over 35 years.  This has only been possible because of the hundreds of prayer warriors that have partnered with us over the years as we have grown and followed God’s vision. We have had so many incredible volunteers that have stuck with us through every move and transition, abiding by these simple questions:

“Why do you do the things you do?

Who do you do them for?”
